House in the Clouds

LOCATION : DESCRIPTION

Originally a water tower disguised as a house, this tall, isolated structure rises above the Suffolk landscape like something from a dream or Studio Ghibli film. Its unusual proportions, elevated position, and sense of floating above the trees; give it a quietly surreal, fantasy quality – a building that never quite belongs to the ground it stands on. Built in 1923 in the planned village of Thorpeness, now a self-catering holiday home with five bedrooms, it retains its folly character and slightly unreal presence.

Key features include:

  • Former water tower disguised as a house
  • Elevated, “floating” appearance above the trees
  • Iconic Suffolk Heritage Coast landmark
  • Self-catering accommodation with panoramic views
