Prize by Radisson, Hamburg City

Originally opened as Prizeotel, this budget-design hotel in Hamburg’s St. Pauli district, designed by Karim Rashid, delivers a strong early-2000s Frutiger Aero atmosphere, especially in the quiet corridors and lobby during off-peak hours. The public spaces and rooms feature soft, flowing shapes, high-gloss finishes, patterned floors and walls, and a bright, optimistic colour palette of vivid blues, aquas, pinks and yellows; typical of mid-2000s design. The overall effect is playful, slightly futuristic, and delivers a  dreamlike quality, as if walking through a slightly too-perfect digital rendering of a hotel.

Key features include:

  • Vibrant high-contrast colour schemes (blues, greens, pinks, yellows)
  • Organic, curved furniture and architectural details
  • Glossy and reflective surfaces throughout
  • Distinctive patterned carpets and wall treatments
  • Compact but stylish rooms with modern fittings
  • A lively yet slightly unreal lobby and corridor atmosphere
