Orange tiles that go on forever, dim globe lights, and glass bubbles at street level; Dupont Station is a 1970s relic that can feel rendered, rather than built, during off-peak hours. James Sutherland’s mosaic ‘Spadina Summer Under All Seasons’ covers a large stretch of platform and mezzanine with oversized plants and flowers, making the platform feel like a greenhouse that never sees daylight. It also shares a liminal parallel with Dupont Circle Station, in Washington DC – another 70’s subway with original features, winding corridors, and a never-ending escalator.
Nearby: The Russell Hill Emergency Exit located in Winston Churchill Park, between Dupont & St. Clair West stations – looks very much a like an ominous portal to another dimension.
