Golden Hills Resort, Genting Highlands (Formerly Amber Court)

LOCATION : DESCRIPTION

Rising out of the fog of the Genting Highlands is a pair of imposing, 23-storey towers, once notorious for their unsettling appearance and reputation as one of Malaysia’s most haunted buildings, with Djinn allegedly residing in some of the apartments. Formerly known as Amber Court, the complex looms over the surrounding rainforest, with its repetitive windows, balconies, and curved concrete structure reminiscent of an abandoned building you’d find in a horror game.

The hotel became particularly recognisable for it’s decayed and sinister appearance, caused by algae and mould thriving in the cool, humid mountain climate, leading most to believe it was abandoned – though it never was. Combined with it’s eerily quiet communal areas, with long tiled corridors and repetitive doorways – exactly the same on every floor – Amber Court developed a reputation for feeling uncanny, and haunted. The building was even used as a filming location for the 2017 horror film Haunted Hotel, further cementing its association with unsettling architecture and supernatural folklore.

Since 2026 the property is known as Golden Hills Resort Apartments. Recent renovations and repainting have considerably changed its appearance, removing much of the weathered exterior that made the building so unsettling. Though, it’s copy-paste silhouette still remains, along with it’s seemingly endless loop of stairways and corridors; and views from the windows are frequently obscured by the fog – creating an uneasy atmosphere.
