Carland Cross Wind Farm

LOCATION : DESCRIPTION

A sweeping stretch of road curves towards the horizon, flanked by metal barriers and enormous white wind turbines. This distinctive location appears in Danny Boyle’s 2002 post-apocalyptic horror film 28 Days Later, during the survivors’ journey away from London. The image is particularly striking for its unusual sense of scale and emptiness, and appears often on liminal Pinterest boards and Reddit threads.
The real location was filmed on the A30 motorway around Carland Cross Wind Farm in Cornwall, England; and the turbine placement appears to have been edited in the film for a dramatic and dreamlike effect.
Even without the movie association and edits however, the large turbines looming over the English countryside and motorway, create a sense of uncanny and unease.
