A valley near Mudurnu filled with the same castle, repeated until the hill gives out. From the road the villas read as a rendering that forgot to vary the seed: three storeys, round towers, pointed roofs, hundreds of them, most without glass, some without floors.
The miniature châteaus were going to be marketed to wealthy Gulf buyers, but the money ran out and building had to stop. Now, 732 near-identical, half finished villas in a Gothic-English fancy remain empty. The site sits in the hills outside Mudurnu, Bolu Province, on the Black Sea side of the ranges. It is the literal, real-world definition of copy-paste; but instead of sterile, grey, modernist boxes, it’s a medieval glitch in the matrix.
