Rows upon rows of red and purple seats stretch across a seemingly endless bingo hall, illuminated by vivid purple lighting, whilst a swirling blue and violet carpet covers the floor. Hundreds of empty chairs face towards unseen callers and display screens, creating the impression of an audience that has either disappeared or has yet to arrive. The combination of saturated colours, repetitive furniture, and emptiness gives the image an uncanny, slightly ‘too perfect’ feel, almost as if it’s computer generated, or is an image of an old and forgotten entertainment venue from the early 2000s. However, Club 3000 Bingo is still an operational bingo hall, and it’s y2k decor is still present!
Its liminal quality exists primarily within the viral image image: where the stillness, decor, and endless repetition turn the ordinary bingo hall into something dreamlike. But it’s still a peak liminal nostalgia venue IRL.
