The MET Troy *Former Location*

A now-defunct mid-century hotel in Troy, Michigan, whose empty corridors, dated décor and institutional atmosphere made it a popular real-world visual stand-in for Backrooms Level 5 “Terror Hotel”.
The MET Troy stood at 5500 Crooks Road in Troy, Michigan, a northern suburb of Detroit. It was a large conference-oriented hotel with roughly 180–190 rooms, meeting space, an indoor pool, sauna, fitness facilities and on-site dining. Built in a typical American suburban hotel style of the later 20th century, its interiors featured long carpeted hallways, functional guest rooms, and the slightly anonymous, transitional feel common to many business hotels of that era.
When empty or sparsely occupied, the corridors and public areas took on a distinctly liminal, and uncanny quality; with endless stretches of patterned carpet, muted lighting, identical doors, and a sense of being lost, or suspended in time. Photographs from the hotel circulated widely in Backrooms communities as visual references for the “Terror Hotel,” even though the canonical Level 5 is a more opulent early-20th-century design. The property appears to have closed under the MET Troy name, and the site is likely being redeveloped.
