RealLiminalSpaces.com is a directory of actual places that feel like they exist between worlds, curated by an actual human called Layla (that’s me backrooms maxxing in the photo).
This site began from a simple fascination with the feeling of being somewhere that no longer quite belongs to the everyday world. A place that is neither fully used nor fully abandoned. A space that feels like a pause, or evokes a sense of nostalgia. And sometimes, just a place to get away from people.
I like to focus on real world locations: endless corridors, abandoned attractions, quiet monuments, strange religious structures, and overlooked spaces that carry a sense of stillness, dislocation, or quiet strangeness. These are not fictional levels in a game or digital renders. They are physical, IRL places you can really visit, experience, and photograph.
My goal is to document these locations with accurate information, access notes, and atmosphere. Along with notes, reviews and photos, submitted by real people. I use traveller photos wherever possible, sourcing my images from Flickr, Tripadvisor, Tumblr, and random blogs – always giving credit to the original poster – in order to create a directory built with human experience and content, not bots, AI, or marketing.
